Biography

Adriele Catrinck (b. 1989, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is a self-taught painter currently living in New York. Though she initially pursued academic paths in Business Administration and Fashion Design, it was art that found her—unexpectedly and irrevocably.

Her relationship with painting began in childhood, though it was fraught with conflict. While she felt a deep connection to art, the rigidity of traditional instruction created resistance. The pressure to conform to imposed standards led her to distance herself from painting altogether, even refusing to attend school at one point—an act that delayed her education by a year. For much of her youth she believed she disliked painting, not realizing she was simply rejecting a lack of creative freedom.

In 2017, she reconnected with art after receiving an easel, brushes and canvas as a Christmas gift. That moment marked a turning point—what she describes as a personal rebirth—and sparked a journey of ongoing self-discovery through painting.

Adriele’s work explores memory, dreams and the cultural roots of Brazil. Her intuitive and emotionally driven approach transforms fragments of her childhood into vibrant dreamlike compositions that blur the lines between reality and imagination. Through color, form and texture she creates an affective universe where personal narratives resonate with collective memory evoking a deep sense of nostalgia and belonging.

Today, even while living abroad she continues to explore her artistic identity and her evolving connection to her homeland.
